Oymakli Canyon and Water Mill
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Oymaklı Canyon and Historical Water Mill is a hidden corner of nature, built on the mountain stream flowing into the Euphrates from the foothills of Gerger Castle, and home to a traditional flour mill that has been rotating with the power of water for centuries. This historical stone mill, where the surrounding villages have been grinding wheat and corn since the early years of the Ottoman Empire and the Republic, is the most authentic representative of the living industrial heritage. Rumor has it that the stones of the mill have been turning non-stop for more than a hundred years; The abundance of flour milled with the prayers of the miller grandfathers fed all Gerger villages. The area, adorned with Çağlayan stream, canyon walls and walnut trees, is an oasis of peace where time stops. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features
