Gediksaray Dam Pond & Recreational Area
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore The dam pond built by DSI near Gediksaray Town, one of the largest settlements in Göynücek, in order to irrigate the fertile plain and prevent floods, has turned into a rich water ecosystem and recreation area over time. Gediksaray takes its name from the historical accommodation palace and caravan gap in the region during the Seljuk and Ottoman periods. The calm waters of the pond have become a peaceful oasis where the surrounding villages and the people of Göynücek can breathe in the summer heat, fish and have picnics in touch with nature. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features It is located in the southwest of Gediksaray Town. Its altitude above sea level is 620 meters. There are oak trees, acacias and large pastures around the pond. Fish species such as mirror carp and chub live in the pond, and it serves as a stopover for migratory water birds in season.
