Historical Kesikköprü Pine Grove and Kızılırmak Observation Deck (Bala)
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Historical Kesikköprü Pine Tree and Observation Terrace, overlooking the Kesikköprü basin, where Kızılırmak flows in the most fascinating meanders, was built by Seljuk Sultan II. It is a unique natural and historical stop rising next to the historical Kesikköprü, which was built in 1251 during the reign of Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev. This historical passage, where the Silk Road caravans crossed the Kızılırmak and reached Konya via Kırşehir, has connected the east and west for centuries. The pine-covered observation deck offers the opportunity to watch the majestic flow of Kızılırmak, the turquoise waters of the dam lake and the 750-year-old Seljuk stone arched bridge from a bird's eye view. Rumor has it that Seljuk caravanners would stay on this pine hill before crossing the bridge and pray to be protected from the wrath of the river. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features The observation terrace is located on the steep slopes of the Kızılırmak canyon, at an altitude of 820 meters. The hill is forested with pine, juniper and acacia trees; It provides refreshing coolness in the summer heat with the sweet winds rising from the river valley. Visiting Hours, Days and Entrance Fees
