Historical Çamlıdere Samarkand Mosque and Çınaraltı Social Complex Square
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore The Historical Samarkand Mosque and Çınaraltı Complex Square, the foundations of which were laid when the great Islamic scholar and Sufi Sheikh Ali Semerkandi settled in Çamlıdere (formerly Ali Dede Şeyhler village), are among the most important spiritual centers of Central Anatolia. Built in the 15th century, the mosque served as a hearth where both worship and scientific assemblies gathered for centuries. The centuries-old majestic plane trees rising in the shadow of the mosque shaded the chat circles of the dervishes and the cauldrons served to the poor. The most famous legend of the complex is the "Sığırcık Water" spring, from which Sheikh Ali Samarkandi is said to have removed his staff by hitting the ground; It is believed that this water calls the starlings that save the fields that are infested with locusts every year. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features The social complex and mosque are located on the historical slopes of Çamlıdere, at an altitude of 1,120 meters. It is surrounded by grand plane, oak and Scots pine trees, and a deep coolness and spiritual serenity brought by the high plateau air prevails. Visiting Hours, Days and Entrance Fees
