Ankara War Historical Area and Otağtepe
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore The Battle of Ankara in 1402, one of the most shocking turning points in the history of world and Turkish warfare, is where the Ottoman Sultan Yıldırım Bayezid Khan and the ruler of the Timurid Empire Emir Timur faced each other with their armies of more than a hundred thousand in the Çubuk Plain. In the battle that took place on Friday, July 28, 1402, Timur's hiding of his armored elephants in the forest valley and the Black Tatars and Anatolian principality soldiers changing sides changed the course of the war. Otağtepe and Çubuk Stream lengths are considered historical places where both world conquerors established their tents and managed their strategic headquarters. Local people have been telling legends about the sound of cavalry hooves and war cries echoing in the heart of Çubuk Plain for centuries.
