Fethiye Historical Mosque & Tomb (19th Century)
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Fethiye Historical Mosque and the great tomb next to it, built in the late Ottoman period of the 19th century, are one of the most intimate examples of rural wooden and stone architecture. It is the spiritual focus of the village with its rubble stone walls built on local cut stone bases, wooden ceiling beams and centuries-old graveyard. The historical tombstones in its graveyard feature elegant turban and flower motifs of Ottoman stone carving art. According to the rumor, the village elder, who is the founder of the mosque, had this mosque built with a sign he received in his dream and made a will to distribute food to the poor living in the village every Friday. This tradition, preserved for centuries, keeps the spiritual climate of the temple alive. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features The mosque is located at an altitude of 880 meters, in the center of Fethiye Village, under the shadow of centuries-old grand plane trees.
