Eğrigöl
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Located at the foot of the Geyik Mountains, one of the most magnificent massifs of the Taurus Mountains, on the border of the Söbüçimen Plateau, Eğrigöl has been the summering area and caravan route crossing point of the Yoruk tribes for centuries. The yellow and white mountain water lilies blooming around the lake and the ice-cold melting snow waters are considered a miracle of nature among the local people. In Yoruk legends, it is told that the unmelted snow from the summit of Geyik Mountain flows into Eğrigöl, that the milk of the sheep and goat herds drinking from the lake's water is healing and that the lake carries a sacred serenity. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features It is an alpine lake of glacial and karst origin located at an altitude of approximately 2,500 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by steep limestone cliffs, alpine meadows and snow banks. Wild water lily flowers covering the lake surface in June and July and natural trout swimming in the clear water create the unique richness of the ecosystem. Visiting Hours, Days and Entrance Fees
