Kazagaci Plateau
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Kazağacı Plateau, located on the historical Seljuk Caravan Road (Keykubad Road), is an ancient water head and accommodation area where plateauers, caravanners and dervishes have taken a break under its shade for centuries. The plateau takes its name from the huge Monumental Plane Trees (Platanus orientalis), whose trunk width reaches meters and whose ages vary between 500 and 800 years. According to local legend, the Seljuk Sultan Alaaddin Keykubad, while going on a campaign with his caravan from Konya to Alanya, set up his tent under these magnificent plane trees, made his army drink water from these springs and decreed that these trees should be protected until the end of time. The stone-corrugated springs under the plane trees have been flowing uninterrupted for centuries. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features Kazağacı Plateau is located in a spacious Bosphorus valley of the Taurus Mountains, at an altitude of approximately 1,350 meters above sea level. A natural canopy dome forms under the huge leaf domes of plane trees; Even in the hottest summer months, there is a cool enough air underneath to make you feel cold. The flow rate of water coming out from under karst rocks is high. It is surrounded by juniper forests and wild fruit trees. Visiting Hours, Days and Entrance Fees
