Senir Buttonli Houses

History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Senir Village, established on the steep mountain slopes of Gündoğmuş, is one of the most magnificent and intact centers of traditional 'Button House' architecture dating back to the Ottoman period. These houses, which were built by stacking local limestones without using mortar and locking Taurus cedar (tar tree) and juniper planks between them, were named 'Düğmeli' because the wooden ends protrude from the wall surface like buttons. This wooden skeleton system, which flexes during earthquakes, has been standing tall for hundreds of years. According to local narratives, Senir craftsmen processed the tar tree with such mastery that the scent of cedar resin wafts inside the houses even after centuries have passed; This scent acts as a natural armor that protects the house from scorpions, snakes and pests. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features Senir is located on a steep mountain terrace at an altitude of approximately 1,050 meters above sea level. The houses in the village are perfectly adapted to the gradually rising topography; Neither mansion blocks the view of the other.
