History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Adamkayalar (Conglomerate Erosion Rocks), scientifically known as 'Conglomerate' (the lithification of gravel and sand carried by streams with natural cement over millions of years), is one of the most fascinating examples in the world of geological formation. It is called 'Adamkayalar' because it resembles standing human and living silhouettes, and 'Cappadocia of the Taurus Mountains' and 'Land of Avatar' due to its mystical and extraordinary atmosphere. According to the legends of the local nomads, these rocks were formed when giants who suffered the wrath of the gods in ancient times turned into stone; Secret corridors and labyrinths among the rocks have been natural shelters for centuries, where mountain shepherds hid their animals during winter storms. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features The Adamkayalar belt extends for kilometers along the mountain road leading to the Selge Ancient City, at altitudes between approximately 900 and 1,150 meters above sea level. It consists of thousands of pointed, round and mushroom-shaped giant stone towers, with heights ranging from 10 meters to 50 meters.
