Hıdırlık Tower
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Hıdırlık Tower, built in the 2nd century AD during the Roman Empire, is an iconic lighthouse and mausoleum structure that stands guard at the southwestern corner of Antalya's city walls with its 14-meter-high cylindrical body rising on a square base. It is known that it was built as a mausoleum for a noble senator of Rome and his family, and was later used as a lighthouse and defense fortress to guide ships approaching the city. The name of the tower comes from the fact that the Hıdırellez festival, where the prophets Hızır and İlyas met, has been celebrated on this cape for centuries. With the meticulous excavation and landscaping carried out by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality in 2020-2024, Roman baths, ancient walls and Turkey's largest cliff glass viewing terrace complex around the tower were opened to visitors. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features The tower is located at an altitude of approximately 35 meters above sea level, on a steep cape cut by cliffs perpendicular to the sea. This is the strategic point where Karaalioğlu Park begins and Historical Kaleiçi ends. When viewed from the terrace, there is the vast open Mediterranean on your left, the majestic snowy Bey Mountains in front of you, and the Historical Marina stretching like an amphitheater on your right. Mediterranean seagulls glide along the cliff cornice. Visiting Hours, Days and Entrance Fees
