Boztepe Observation Hill and Weeping Tree
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Boztepe Observation Hill and Weeping Tree are the places where Fatih Sultan Mehmed Han looked at the city from the hill while conquering Amasra in 1460 and asked 'Is this the Çeşm-i Cihan?' (Dünyanın gözbebeği burası mıdır?) diyerek hayran kaldığı efsanevi seyir terasının bulunduğu Boztepe Yarımadası'nın zirvesidir. The approximately 350-400-year-old monumental cypress/cypress tree located on the hill is popularly known as the 'Weeping Tree' because it collects the intense moisture and fog of the Black Sea rising from the sea in its leaves and drops it down in drops at certain times of the year. In folk legends, it is believed that this tree shed tears after the sailors who sailed from Amasra and could not return and prayed for the reunion of lovers. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features Amasra'nın Boztepe adasının en yüksek kuzey burnunda, yaklaşık 95 metre rakımda yer alır. Karadeniz'in hırçın dalgalarının dövdüğü dik falezin üzerinde yükselen tepe; karşıdaki Tavşan Adası'nı, deniz fenerini ve uçsuz bucaksız mavi ufku kuşbakışı seyreder.
