Raman Mountain Historical Oil Field and Raman-8 Memorial Well History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore

  • •Raman-8 Well, where the first commercial and rich oil reserve of the Republic of Turkey was discovered on March 8, 1948, is the historical turning point that started the transformation of a small village called Iluh into today's modern city of Batman.
  • •The well drilled by Turkish engineers and workers under harsh winter conditions is engraved in the golden pages of the Republic's industrial history as the moment when 'Black Gold' gushed out.
  • •The historical horsehead pump, which is now preserved as an open-air industrial museum and a monumental well, is the strongest symbol of the city's industrial heritage. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features
