History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Historical Taşhan is a two-storey monumental inn built in the 16th century Ottoman classical architectural style, right on the banks of the Çoruh River in the city center of Bayburt, and has hosted merchants and caravans for centuries. The building, also known as the 'Kondolotlar Inn', has become the lifeblood of Bayburt's commercial life with its solid walls made of cut and rubble stone, barrel vaulted shops and an open courtyard. According to the narrations told among the tradesmen of the inn, it is said that the silk merchants of Iran and Tabriz passing through the Silk Road kept their gold in the safe vaults of this inn and that the abundance of the inn comes from the honest Ahi tradition. Today, the inn is a living cultural center where traditional Bayburt ehram weaving and silver filigree art is performed.
