About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Aladağ Pond is a fascinating nature shelter located in the heart of centuries-old fir and Scots pine forests, at the foot of the mighty Köroğlu Mountains range in the south of Bolu. In Köroğlu legends among the people of the region, it is said that the folk hero Köroğlu took a breather with his Kırat in the lush green plateaus on the shores of this pond and drank water from its cool springs. The pond, which has been used as the main center of the Turkish Scouting Federation and youth camps since the Republican era, is a living symbol of nature education and plateau culture. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features Located at an altitude of approximately 1,350 meters, Aladağ Pond was built for irrigation and flood prevention purposes and has turned into a rich ecosystem with its biodiversity over time. Giant fir, larch, beech and wild hazelnut forests surrounding the lake reflect a different color harmony in every season. Carp and trout species live in the pond water, and it is a stopover point for migratory water birds. Visiting Hours, Days and Entrance Fees
