Ortaköy Caravanserai (Karacabey Caravanserai) is a magnificent range inn built in 1454 by Dayı Karaca Bey, one of the famous commanders of Mehmed the Conqueror and Rumelian Beylerbeyi. The building, which was built to protect caravan traffic on the Bursa-Eskişehir-Konya route of the historical Silk Road and to provide safe accommodation for merchants, is a masterpiece of early Ottoman stone and brick masonry. The barrel-vaulted porticoes and huge hearth niches inside carry the sounds of merchants and caravans from centuries ago to today.
