History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore The historical Köprülü Mehmed Pasha Mosque (Yalı Mosque) was built by Grand Vizier Köprülü Mehmed Pasha within the scope of the reconstruction of the island after the liberation of Bozcaada from Venetian occupation in 1655. The mosque, which was renovated by merchants and philanthropists from Bozcaada in the 19th century, is an integral part of the Bozcaada skyline with its typical island architecture with hipped roof, wooden ceiling core and elegant minaret overlooking the harbour.
