History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Polente Lighthouse (historic lighthouse with a height of 32 meters, built in 1861 in France) is a fascinating corner of nature, famous for its 17 huge wind turbines lined up on steep cliffs at the westernmost tip of the island, and for Turkey's most iconic sunset ritual (the moment when hundreds of people bid farewell to the Aegean Sea with their chairs and island musts).
