Kaz Mountains Yenice Fir Forests and Registered Chestnut Honey Nature Route

History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Located in the northeastern range of the Kaz Mountains, Yenice is home to one of the most untouched and uninterrupted forest seas in Türkiye. In the ancient legends of Mount Ida, the deep valleys described by Homer as 'the mother of a thousand springs and wild animals' in the Iliad are within the borders of Yenice. The chestnut, linden and Kazdağı fir forests, protected by Yörük and Turkmen villages for centuries, are the most valuable center of beekeeping culture. The famous 'Yenice Chestnut Honey', registered by the Turkish Patent Institute, is produced in deep forest bottoms, completely free of chemical agriculture. In the region, the will of the dervishes from the Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli caliphs to protect the springs and grand trees in the forest villages is told. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features While Yenice district center is located at an altitude of 250 meters, the forest route rises up to 1,200 meters. The region is covered with Türkiye's endemic Kazdağı Fir (Abies nordmanniana equi-trojani), beech, oak and centuries-old chestnut trees.
