History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore
Obruk Dam Lake, which came to life when Kızılırmak filled the steep mountain canyons, created a deep blue fjord geography in the transition zone of Central Anatolia and the Black Sea. The district coast, called the Oğuzlar Coast, transformed the region, known for its mountainous walnut villages during the Ottoman and Republican periods, into the coastal town of Çorum. Boat tours around the old canyon roads and mills flooded by the dam lake take visitors to the legendary depths of Kızılırmak, where galleons swam in ancient times. The deep-rooted bond established by the Oghuz people with Kızılırmak continues under the shade of registered walnut trees on the lake shore. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features
