Tabae Rock Mosque & Cisterns

History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Tabae Rock Mosque & Cisterns is a mysterious place of worship built by carving into the main rocky mass of the ancient city. The place, which was used as a rock church and shelter during the Byzantine period, was converted into a mosque by carving a mihrab after the Turkish conquest. The giant ancient water cisterns next to it met the city's water needs during siege times.
