About & Visitor Guide

History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore İpsala Plain, formed by the mineral alluviums carried by the Meriç River, is the paddy capital of Türkiye, which alone meets approximately one-third of rice production. 'Ipsala Rice', which has received Geographical Indication Registration in the European Union, is grown in flat fields fed by the fresh waters of Meriç and is the crown jewel of Turkish cuisine with its capacity to absorb water while cooking, falling grain by grain and its unique aroma. Gala Lake National Park, located on the border of İpsala and Enez, is a huge wetland paradise of 6,000 hectares where birds have stopped on their migration route and pelicans, flamingos and swans have danced since ancient times. Legends that have been told for centuries in the village cafes in the region tell that the floods of Meriç brought fertility to the plain and gave life to rice in the soil. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features It is located on the flood plain of the Meriç Basin, at an altitude of 10 meters close to sea level. The reeds surrounding Gala and Pamuklu lakes are home to more than 200 species of birds, otters and mullets. Paddy pans, which stretch like an endless emerald green carpet in summer, turn golden yellow in autumn, presenting a dazzling visual feast. Visiting Hours, Days and Entrance Fees
