Historical Süleymaniye District (Old Gümüşhane) Urban Protected Area

History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Süleymaniye District (Eski Gümüşhane), located in a deep valley 4 km southwest of Gümüşhane city center, is the historical city center where the richest silver mines and official silver coin mint of the Ottoman Empire are located. In the valley where Muslim and Christian miners lived in peace for centuries; Restored wood-stone mansions, historical mint ruins, stone-arched shops and cobblestone streets make you travel back in time.
