White Water Waterfall and Patience Mountain Source Valley

History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Beyaz Su Waterfall is one of the purest karst water sources in Eastern Anatolia, gushing loudly from the limestone rock cracks at the foot of the steep Sabır Mountain, approximately 10 km from the Çukurca district center, and mixing with the Zap Water. It is called 'White Water (Ava Spi)' by the local people due to the dense white foams it forms on the steep rock surface where the water spills. According to local legend, in ancient times, while caravans were descending to the Mesopotamian plains via Çukurca, a dervish, exhausted from the burning sun and thirst of Mount Sabır, tapped his staff on the rock of the mountain and prayed, "O mountain of patience, donate the spring in your bosom to the travelers." At that moment, the pure white sparkling water gushing from the rock has been flowing non-stop for centuries. The waterfall is a nature oasis where those traveling through Zap Canyon can take a breather, especially in spring and summer. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features The waterfall is located on the steep eastern slope of Zap Canyon, at an altitude of approximately 1,280 meters above sea level. Karst spring water flows ice cold at an average temperature of 8-10°C throughout the year. Surrounding it are steep limestone cliffs, wild figs, mountain mint, sumac bushes and rich rock flora.
