About & Visitor Guide

History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Ağaçdibi Waterfall is a hidden nature paradise fed by melting snow waters at the foot of the steep Cilo-Sat mountain range, in the Ağaçdibi Village valley located approximately 15 km from Hakkari city center. The waterfall, falling from steep cliffs at a height of approximately 20 meters, is a cool oasis in the shade of lush walnut and poplar trees. According to the rumor among the local people, in ancient times, a shepherd who was grazing animals in the mountains during a dry summer found this hidden water source by following the bird sounds coming from behind the rocks; The villagers joined hands and dug the rock, and Ağaçdibi Waterfall, which flows loudly today, came to light. The traditional wooden gazebos built around the waterfall and the ice-cold spring waters are the most popular escape point for Hakkari people and nature lovers visiting the city. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features The waterfall is located in a narrow and steep side canyon connecting to the Zap Valley, at an altitude of approximately 1,680 meters above sea level. The water falling from the rocks creates a clear, emerald green natural pool on the valley floor. Surrounding it are centuries-old wild walnut trees, mulberry trees, willows and mountain mint communities; The valley offers relief in the summer heat with its cool microclimate.
