Şarlayan Waterfall, Amanos Canyon Cave and Nature Trail
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Şarlayan Waterfall (also known as Şarlağan Waterfall among the local people) is a hidden miracle of nature, cascading loudly in the steep valleys on the eastern foothills of the Amanos Mountains, within the borders of Hassa district. It is one of the untouched nature paradises of Hatay, with its waterfall pouring from high limestone cliffs into a deep canyon, the natural cave pool located right behind it and the emerald green forest cover surrounding it. According to the local legend, in ancient times, when the sheep herds of the transhumants living in Amanos were about to collapse due to thirst in the summer drought, a great dervish hit the rock of the mountain with his staff and water gushed out from the rock and filled the canyon; The region is called 'Şarlayan' due to the relaxing sound of the water as it flows. This fairy-tale valley, which could not be visited for years for security reasons, has become the most popular ecotourism route for nature lovers, hiking clubs and campers in recent years. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features The waterfall is located within the Amanos forest belt, at an altitude of approximately 780-850 meters above sea level. The waterfall water, fed by karst spring waters, maintains its coolness in summer and winter. Surrounding it are centuries-old plane trees, wild hazelnuts, hornbeam, laurel, Scots pine and rich fern communities. Visiting Hours, Days and Entrance Fees
