Historical Khashoggi Fountain and Square (Ottoman Aquaculture)
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Kaşıkçı Fountain, built in the formerly known as 'Çıfıtburgaz' (now Bağcılar) location, famous for its lush vineyards that provided vegetables and fruits to the Historical Peninsula during the Ottoman period, is the oldest registered stone monument in the region. Built of cut stone in the 18th century Ottoman water architecture style, the fountain met the cool water needs of caravans and vineyard workers. The floral motifs and water bowl cavity on the mirror stone of the fountain have survived to the present day, and the surrounding area has been restored as a registered square by Bağcılar Municipality.
