Historical Smyrna Mound and Tepekule Ruins (Old Izmir - 3000 BC)

Prof. Dr. Bayraklı Tepekule Mound, brought to light by excavations by Ekrem Akurgal and British archaeologist John Cook, is the 5,000-year-old ancient core of Izmir, where it was first founded in 3000 BC. In the city, which is considered to be the place where Homer, the greatest poet of ancient times, lived; It includes the Temple of Athena, which dates back to the 7th century BC and is the oldest monumental temple of the Eastern Greek world, megaron-type stone houses, water fountain, civil city walls and street texture. It is considered one of the earliest planned grid city models of Anatolia. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features It is a natural hill mound on the northeastern coast of the Gulf of Izmir, rising at an altitude of approximately 25 meters above sea level.
