Located in the historical core of Bornova, the Historical Bornova Grand Mosque is the most important religious heritage of the 18th century Ottoman classical architecture in the district center. It has been the spiritual gathering center of the city for centuries, with its single balconied minaret with cut stone base, wooden ceiling decorations and centuries-old plane tree in its courtyard. The mosque courtyard and the surrounding historical bazaar keep alive the traditional tradesman solidarity and foundation culture from the Ottoman period to the present day. Spiritual Visiting Etiquette and Commemoration Guidelines•Spiritual Visit and Prayer Etiquette: Silence should be maintained in the courtyard and inside the mosque, the historical wooden altar and pulpit should be examined with decorum, and prayers should be said.•Documentary & Respectful Shooting:Stonework, courtyard fountain and centuries-old plane tree can be photographed without disturbing the worshipers.•Important Commemoration Days:The historical atmosphere is felt most intensely in the mosque courtyard during Kandil nights and Friday prayers.•Local Spiritual Tradition:The tradition of offering charity snacks and rose sherbet is kept alive by shopkeepers after prayers on Fridays.
