Gazi Ahmet Muhtar Pasha Mansion and Memorial House

History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Gazi Ahmet Muhtar Pasha Mansion is one of the most important historical buildings of Kars, built in the first half of the 19th century and used as a military headquarters by Gazi Ahmet Muhtar Pasha, the Commander-in-Chief of the Caucasian Front in the 1877-1878 Ottoman-Russian War (93 War). It is an outstanding example of 19th century Ottoman civil mansion architecture in Kars, with its two-storey, cut basalt stone, wide wooden ceiling and bay window structure. Gazi Ahmet Muhtar Pasha commanded the battles of Alacadağ, Gedikler and Yahni from this mansion; He played a leading role in giving the city the title of 'Gazi' with his military genius. Following a comprehensive restoration, the mansion opened its doors as 'Gazi Ahmet Muhtar Pasha Memorial House' in 2016; Pasha's wax statue, the military maps he used, war sketches, swords and rifles of the period, and photographs of the Caucasian Front are exhibited. In the local memory, the prayers of the Mehmetçiks who resisted heroically in the Kars redoubts and the people of Kars came together in this mansion, and the Pasha's words 'Kars will not fall!' It is proudly conveyed that his oath echoes on these walls. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features It is located in Kars city center, Ortakapı District, on Vali Hüseyin Atak Boulevard, at an altitude of approximately 1,750 meters.
