Historical Keskin Bazaar Mosque
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore The historical Keskin Bazaar Mosque was built during the Ottoman period at the end of the 19th century, when Keskin was a mining and trade center, and is the spiritual symbol of the district. Built from cut Ankara stone with a square plan scheme, the mosque is an outstanding example of Late Ottoman stonemasonry with its wooden ceiling decorations, madder-painted geometric belly motif and elegant single-balcony minaret. According to the narrations told among the people of Keskin, it is believed that the prayers made in this mosque, which was built with the sweat of the masters and tradesmen working in the mines of the district, lead to abundance and that the gold and prayers of benefactors are included in the foundation mortar of the mosque. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features It is located in Keskin district center, in the historical market square, at an altitude of approximately 1,140 meters. Rising on a gently sloping land at the foot of Dinek Mountain, the mosque creates a historical texture compatible with the historical Taş Mektep and traditional Keskin mansions around it.
