Zazadin Khan Caravanserai
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Zazadın Inn (Sadeddin Inn) was built in 1236 by Anatolian Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I and II. It was built on the Historical Silk Road route by the Seljuk chief architect and vizier Sadeddin Dog during the reign of Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev. The building, which has the most monumental and tallest crown gate of Seljuk stone architecture, is a magnificent example of the mixed caravanserai type, with both a summer open courtyard and a winter closed hall. In its construction, spoliated Roman and Byzantine marble reliefs were blended with Seljuk stonemasonry. According to legend, Silk Road caravans stayed in this inn free of charge for three days, their horses were shod and the patients in the caravan were examined by a doctor. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features The inn rises like a castle in the flat and wide-open terrain of the steppe, at an altitude of approximately 995 meters above sea level, in the east of the Konya Plain. It is surrounded on all sides by thick cut stone walls supported by defensive towers and buttresses. Visiting Hours, Days and Entrance Fees
