Bitez Bay and Blue Flag Beach
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Bitez Bay is the legendary coast of the Bodrum Peninsula, surrounded by the most established tangerine gardens, which has become part of Turkish folk culture with the lines of "Bitez Yalısı" mentioned in the famous "Çökertme Ballad". The region, which was the fertile agricultural basin of Halicarnassus in ancient times, became one of the main port stops in Bodrum for maritime trade and tangerine exports during the republican period. The bay, which keeps the memory of Halil Efe, the hero of the folk song, alive, is one of the rare spots where traditional Aegean coastal life continues intact today. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features Located at sea level (altitude 0 m), the bay is closed to strong open sea waves thanks to its semicircular sheltered geological structure. The shallow and sandy seabed offers an ideal depth profile for non-swimmers and families. Citrus and olive trees along the coast give the area a refreshing microclimate.
