Kdür Peninsula Natural Protected Area and Panormos Rock Tombs

History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Kdür Peninsula is a virgin cape with the status of a 1st Degree Natural and Archaeological Protected Area, protecting the north of Yalıkavak Gulf. On the shores of the bay, which was known as 'Panormos' (Safe Harbor) in ancient times, there are rock-carved tomb chambers and cisterns dating back to the Hellenistic and Roman periods. The region is also home to the rare breeding and sheltering caves of the endangered Mediterranean Monk Seal (Monachus monachus) in Bodrum. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features It consists of karst and volcanic rocks eroded by waves, natural rock pools, dune plants and bays separated from island to island. With its structure open to the wind, the scents of thyme and wild lavender spread throughout the peninsula. The seabed is sometimes sandy and sometimes covered with seagrass.
