EU Registered Milas Memecik Olive Oil and Carpet Route

History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Milas Olive Oil is Türkiye's first geographically indicated olive oil registered in the European Union (EU). This oil, which has been cold-pressed from Memecik type olives since ancient Caria, has won worldwide awards for its high polyphenol content and fruity aroma. In addition, the centuries-old 'Milas Handmade Carpets', woven with madder dyed wool, are another deep-rooted Turkmen heritage with a geographical indication. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features A huge olive sea consisting of millions of olive trees lies on the outskirts of Milas plain and Bafa Lake.
