Hasköy Historical Silk Road Caravan Bridge
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore The Historical Caravan Bridge, built on the Karasu bed on the borders of Hasköy, is a vital transition structure connecting the southern branch of the Silk Road during the Seljuk and early Ottoman periods. Its round-arched body, built of cut basalt stone, enabled caravans and merchants to pass safely through flood waters for centuries. According to legend, while the keystone of the bridge was being placed, the journeyman of the period added healing water and egg white to the mortar to ensure that it would not collapse for centuries. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features It is located at an altitude of 1,290 meters on the valley floor where the Karasu River meanders. Willows and reeds lie along its banks.
