About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore The historical Asmalı Konak, built in 1887 in the Ürgüp district center, is one of the peak examples of Cappadocia traditional stonemasonry and civil architecture. The building, which draws attention with its two-storey, large inner courtyard and rich stone relief architecture, has become legendary throughout Turkey as the main location of the 'Asmalı Konak' series, one of the most watched productions in Turkish television history in the early 2000s. In the mansion, which today serves as a museum-house, authentic rooms from the TV series scenes, period furniture and traditional Cappadocia home life are exhibited. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features Konak was established on the ridge of Ürgüp's historical Yunak District, at an altitude of 1,060 meters above sea level. It was built from yellow and beige volcanic tuff cut stones specific to the region; These stones keep the interior cool in the summer heat and warm in the winter cold.
