About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Sarı Saltuk Tomb is a historical mausoleum built in Bor district in the name of His Excellency Sarı Saltuk, the great Turkmen dervish and veteran-seer who played a leading role in the Islamization and Turkification of Anatolia and the Balkans and is considered the close contemporary and caliph of Hacı Bektaş-ı Veli. Dating back to the 13th century, the building bears the classical Seljuk tomb architecture with a square plan and dome. As described in the Saltuknâme epic, before his death, Sarı Saltuk had 12 separate coffins prepared to prevent his enemies from damaging his grave, and he willed these coffins to be buried in different towns. The tomb in Bor, as one of these 12 sacred places, is a spiritual hearth where people have taken refuge with the deepest love for centuries. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features The tomb is located in Bor district center, within the borders of the historical Orta District, at an altitude of approximately 1,110 meters above sea level.
