Ordu Martyrs' Monument and Garrison Martyrs' Cemetery
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore The Army Martyrs' Monument and Garrison Martyrdom was built to keep alive the cherished memory of the heroic Army Mehmetçiks and police members who sacrificed their lives in defense of the homeland, from the Caucasus and Çanakkale fronts of World War I to the War of Independence, Korea, Cyprus and internal security operations. The crescent and star memorial column rising on a marble base proudly bears the names of 1,438 Ordu martyrs who marched to martyrdom on 16 different fronts. This monument, rising against the rough waves of the Black Sea, is seen among the people as an unshakable castle of love for the homeland and flag, and it is believed that the spiritual spirit of the martyrs always protects the Black Sea coast. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features The martyrs' cemetery and memorial area is located on a spacious slope overlooking the Altınordu coastline and Eskipazar ridges, at an altitude of approximately 45 meters above sea level. The area, adorned with centuries-old pines, palm trees and rich flower beds of the Black Sea climate, offers a serene and solemn spiritual atmosphere in the heart of the city.
