Historical Orta Mosque (Atik İbrahim Pasha Mosque)
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Historical Orta Mosque (officially known as Atik İbrahim Pasha Mosque) is a monumental Ottoman place of worship whose foundation was laid in wood by the Ottoman Governor Atik İbrahim Pasha in 1770, and was rebuilt from cut stone in 1802 after it was worn out over time. Located in the heart of Selimiye District, the mosque is one of the most characteristic historical symbols of the city with its embossed altar, wooden women's gallery and stone minaret, where Ottoman Baroque architecture is blended with Black Sea stonemasonry. According to popular narrative, Atik İbrahim Pasha had this mosque built as a token of gratitude after he reached the shore safely during a stormy Black Sea expedition; It is believed that sailors who drink water from the fountain in the mosque courtyard will always be safe at sea. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features The mosque is located in the Selimiye District, which constitutes the historical city core of Altınordu, on the sloping land on the outskirts of Boztepe, at an altitude of approximately 25 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by centuries-old plane and magnolia trees, registered historical Ordu mansions and stone streets. Visiting Hours, Days and Entrance Fees
