History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore The Historical Taraklı Monument Plane Plane Tree is one of the most vivid representatives of the tradition of planting plane trees as a sign of rooting and permanence in the lands conquered by the Ottoman Empire, and is a living monument of nature and history that is approximately 700-800 years old. The huge plane tree rising in Çınaraltı Square, the heart of Taraklı's authentic atmosphere with the title of Cittaslow (Calm City), has shaded dozens of generations from the founding years of the Ottoman Empire to the present day, and has been a meeting point where edicts are read and market assemblies are held. According to popular legend, it is considered a living example of the great plane tree that emerged from Osman Gazi's chest in his dream and surrounded the whole world; It is believed that those who sit under its shade and sip tea will find peace in their hearts and abundance in their lives. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features The monumental plane tree is located in the center of the historical urban fabric of Taraklı, in the Yusuf Bey District square, at an altitude of approximately 460 meters above sea level. The branches of the great tree, whose trunk is many meters wide, cover the entire square, creating a unique harmony with the surrounding 3-storey historical wooden Taraklı houses and cobblestone streets.
