History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore

  • •Located in the heart of Tillo, the ancient town of science and wisdom, the Historical Bazaar Mosque and Madrasa is a sacred center where astronomy, logic, mysticism and religious sciences have been taught together for centuries.
  • •This madrasah, where dozens of great Islamic scholars, especially Hazrat İsmail Fakirullah and İbrahim Hakkı, trained students, was considered one of the highest centers of science in Anatolia and Mesopotamia.
  • •In local narratives, it is stated that Marifetnâme pages were written in the madrasah cells under the light of gas lamps from night prayer until dawn and the students underwent spiritual training. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features
  • •The altitude is approximately 1,150 meters above sea level. It is located in the historical center of the Tillo Plateau overlooking the Botan Valley.

  • •Visiting Hours and Days:It is open to visitors 7 days a week between 08:30 - 18:30.
  • •Rules, Safety and Baby Stroller/Disabled Access: The madrasa courtyard has a smooth stone floor and is wheelchair accessible; Historical buildings should not be damaged.
