Sorkun Waterfalls Natural Monument
About & Visitor Guide
History and General Information / Local Legends and Folklore Sorkun Waterfalls Natural Monument is one of the hidden canyon paradises of the Black Sea, which was included among the registered Natural Monuments of Türkiye by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in 2017. There are 15 different waterfall steps, large and small, in the approximately 2.3 kilometer steep canyon valley that deepens along the Sorkun Creek. Natural giant cauldrons of turquoise and emerald green, formed on the rock bottoms where the waterfalls flow, give visitors the feeling of a fairy-tale nature aquarium. According to local narratives, it is known that the cool water of the valley is fed by karst springs in the mountains and that it is a corner of paradise where local hunters and nature lovers have taken refuge with admiration for centuries. Geographical Structure, Altitude and Natural Features The canyon valley, which extends at an altitude of approximately 340-480 meters, is covered with dense beech, hornbeam, oak, ash and larch forests. The rich moss and fern cover on the canyon walls creates a microclimatic moist forest ecosystem. Visiting Hours, Days and Entrance Fees
