Alata Coastal Beach and Nature Park, under the protection of the Alata Horticulture Research Institute, is one of the most untouched dune ecosystems of the Mediterranean. The area, which was established as an agricultural breeding center in the first years of the Republic, is also a sacred natural beach where endangered sea turtles (Caretta caretta and Chelonia mydas) have laid their eggs for thousands of years.
